Everything Old Is New Again

It’s been a minute since I’ve blogged on my blog like it’s some kind of blog.

I’ve had this site sitting around for a while now, using it for nothing but dropping links to the podcasts and videos I’ve published on YouTube. And since July, apparently, I’ve not even been doing that.

I do a lot of writing these days. Well. I say “these days” even though I published just a single video essay in the entirety of 2023 and it wasn’t very long. But I wrote a lot. Most of it is simply unfinished or unpublished.

We’re all better off for it. Trust me.

I’ve been expressing myself on the Internet for a Very Long Time – on podcasts, in video essays, on social media, in livestreams and, once upon a time, as a writer on other people’s websites. That no longer exist. Thank the Goddess.

But I started with a blog. Sitting down to write with music blasting out of my headphones (currently listening to: Old Gods of Asgard – Herald of Darkness).

2023 was bad. I’ve spent that last several months working out how I wanted to keep expressing myself. If I even wanted to. “New year, new me” is a cliché I don’t like very much, and it’s not even all that accurate to what I’m currently trying to express right now, but there’s some truth to it.

I’ve spent way too long redesigning the way this website looks (web design is decidedly not my passion). And I’m going to start writing words on it again. About games, obvs. But also about other things.

Words about whatever I feel like writing about in the moment, that aren’t video essays or podcast topics for YouTube, and might not even be about games some of the time.

I’m keeping the Words About Games name for the site. Because I already own the domain, because it’s my brand I guess (and I’ve been told it’s important to have a brand for some reason), and because the previous paragraph won’t fit into my template’s header.

I’ll keep this first post succinct and cut myself off here. My next post will probably be my personal Game of the Year list from last year. But until I get around to doing that, check out the latest episode of my podcast, where I collaboratively built a top 10 GOTY list with my wonderful co-hosts:
