Ubisoft have announced the much rumoured pirate-based game Skull & Bones. The first part of the reveal revolved around a cinematic that showed two pirate ships engaged in combat, before the victor was ambushed and surrounded by two new ships.
The game is being developed by Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind all of Ubisoft’s naval-based gameplay, including the highly popular Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Now the developer is bringing these mechanics into their own game.
Skull & Bones seems to be a multiplayer-focused experience. Ubisoft showed a 5v5 game mode that saw two teams compete to collect loot. Whoever collects the most loot wins – provided they can escape the pirate hunters that show up later in the match.
Sailing works very similarly to Black Flag – you’ll need to keep the wind at your back and pull up alongside enemy ships for maximum damage. The demo also showed different ship types, with ships designed to take huge amounts of damage, attack enemies from long range and even ships built to ram others.
Skull & Bones is heading to PC, PS4 and Xbox One in 2018.
