This morning – Phantom Dust is being released today for free, Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 has been announced, the creators of Parappa the Rapper and Gitaroo Man are pitching a new game on Kickstarter, a market intelligence firm has created a list of the top 100 countries by game revenue and Devolver Digital will be hosting an indie picnic outside E3.


Phantom Dust Remaster being released for free – Microsoft have announced that the Phantom Dust Remaster will be released today. The game will be free and is launching on Xbox One and Windows 10. The game was first released on the original Xbox in Japan, and wasn’t originally slated to release in the West until intervention from Majesco. Phantom Dust is a four-player arena battle game where players build their skills with decks of cards.

Warner Bros. announce Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 – Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 has been announced. The new game continues to be developed by TT Games and will feature an original, branching storyline set across many different eras and realities from the Marvel universe. Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 will launch on November 17 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with a Switch launched planned for Christmas. A full length trailer will appear on May 23.

Project Rap Rabbit launches a £855,000 Kickstarter – Two of the founding fathers of the music rhythm genre have taken to Kickstarter to pitch a brand new rhythm action game. Project Rap Rabbit (working title) combines the talents of Masaya Matsuura (creator of Parappa the Rapper) and Keiichi Yano (Gitaroo Man). The game will be set in an alternative version of 16th century Japan where a young rabbit farmer will attempt to unify his fractured homeland by drawing strength through music. If successfully funded the game will be heading to PC and PS4 next year (Xbox One and Switch versions appear in the stretch goals).

Market intelligence firm ranks countries by game revenues – Market intelligence firm Newzoo has just published a list of the top 100 countries ranked by game revenue estimates for 2017. The report is based on consumer research, transaction data, quarterly reports and census data and focuses purely on games, excluding hardware sales, tax, business to business sales and online gambling. China and the United States are runaway leaders at $27b & $25b respectively. Japan is a distant third at $12b. The United Kingdom sits at 5th with $4b. Check out the full list below.

Devolver Digital hosting free indie event outside E3 – Devolver Digital have announced that they’ll be hosting an Indie Picnic in the parking lot across the street from E3. The picnic will be completely free for anyone to visit and will showcase a host of indie games and will include music, food, beverages and arcade and carnival games.
