US-based video game retailer Gamestop has announced the creation of a new game publishing division called GameTrust, after announcing in January that they would be publishing Insomniac Games’ upcoming Song of the Deep.

GameTrust has signed four developers to their new division:

  • Frozenbyte (Trine)
  • Ready At Dawn (God of War: Chains of Olympus, The Order: 1886)
  • Tequila Works (Deadlight)
  • Insomniac Games (Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, Sunset Overdrive)

Gamestop’s vice president for internal developments Mark Stanley confirmed that, as part of these deals, the studios will retain creative control over their work. He also went on to note that GameTrust will operate separately from Gamestop, and will not necessarily be seeking to go into direct competition with other publishers:

“This is a largely ignored space. Honestly, we’re not going to be looking at big $15 million-plus franchises right now. We’re looking at smaller games and launching them at times of the year where we stay away from that massive fourth quarter craziness.”

Insomniac aside, it’s not clear what games these developers are working on for GameTrust. Though it is worth noting that Frozenbyte are currently working on Shadwen, and Tequila Works are developing Rime, which was recently dropped by Sony.
