Tequila Works, developers of the upcoming Rime, have reacquired the IP from the game from Sony and will be continuing development independently. Sony greenlit the game and opted to publish the game, then known as Echoes of Siren, as a PS4 exclusive after Microsoft declined.
Now Rime will be independently developed by Tequila Works:
“Tequila Works announces today that it has chosen to reacquire the rights to its open world adventure game, Rime, and is working hard to realise its aspirations for it.”
Sony Computer Entertainment confirmed the news to Polygon, “SCE is no longer proprietary of the IP, nor the publisher of the game.”
It’s not clear whether Rime will still be a PS4 exclusive game, or whether Tequila Works are still contractually bound to keep the game a Playstation exclusive. The developer has said that it cannot reveal any more information.
